Quick answer: Look for someone who can explain the city clearly in English, manage the day, adjust the route, communicate with the driver and local stops, and understand what foreign visitors usually find confusing on a first visit.
$2501–2 guests · 4-hour Medellín half day
$4001–2 guests · 8-hour Medellín full day

Language is the beginning, not the product

A fluent English speaker can make questions easier, especially around history, logistics and spontaneous route changes. But a private host should also know how to sequence the day, read the group's energy and explain what is worth the time.

Translation without planning is still just translation.

Local knowledge should be practical

Useful local knowledge is not trivia. It is knowing which stops combine well, when traffic makes a route silly, where walking gets steeper than expected, and when an attraction is better skipped for the day.

The host should be comfortable saying 'we can do that, but here is what we give up.'

How our model works: The city theme does not change the base price. You are reserving the private vehicle, professional driver, host and time block. Admissions, meals and optional extras stay separate unless explicitly stated.

Why an American host can be useful

An American living in Medellín can bridge two perspectives: understanding what first-time English-speaking visitors worry about while also knowing the city from daily life rather than a weekend visit.

That should complement local drivers and local institutions, not replace Colombian voices or pretend to be a lifelong paisa.

Ask who is actually with you

Some products say 'guide' when the person is primarily a driver. Others send a separate guide. Neither arrangement is automatically bad, but you should know what you are buying.

Our model uses a professional driver for the road and a separate host focused on the guests and Route Card.

The easiest test

Ask one open question before booking: 'If we like art, food and views but do not want a lot of walking, what would you suggest?' The quality of the answer tells you more than a list of certifications or adjectives.

You can read more about our setup on the About page.

Bottom line

Choose the day that fits the people traveling, not the longest list of attractions. If you know your date and group size, we can turn the priorities above into a Route Card and confirm what actually fits.
