Larger groups pay more for a larger vehicle: from $375 for coffee and from $575 for Guatapé for 3–6 guests. Admissions, meals, boat rides, tips and optional extras are separate. Arví and Jardín do not have a posted price block on our site, so ask us what fits and the final price before you assume anything.
If you want the easiest day: coffee
A private coffee experience is a 5 to 6 hour half day built around a farm, the process from plant to cup and a guided tasting. It is usually the lowest-effort option, and it leaves your afternoon or evening free. If you have been on your feet for days, this is the restful choice. Read our coffee farm guide for what to ask a farm before booking.
If you want the postcard day: Guatapé
Guatapé is about 79 kilometers from Medellín, which is why our block is 9 to 10 hours. You get El Peñol, the colorful town streets, the reservoir and a lunch stop. It is a full day on the road, and the rock climb is optional. If stairs are a concern, see whether to climb or skip El Peñol, and compare formats in private vs group Guatapé.
If you want green space near the city: Parque Arví
Arví is a nature park in the hills above Medellín, reached by a Metrocable line, so it feels like a different world without a long drive. Its official site lists tourist services Wednesday through Monday, with the park closed on Tuesdays for maintenance when we last checked. Confirm the current days and hours before you plan around it. Ask us how it fits one of our time blocks, since it is not a posted theme.
If you have time and want a quieter town: Jardín
Jardín sits in the southwest of Antioquia, about 134 kilometers from Medellín according to reference sources, in a mountainous area known for a plaza, a basilica, viewpoints and cable cars. It is the farthest of the four. A single day means long hours on the road for a few hours in town. For most visitors it is better as an overnight, which our Jardín feasibility guide examines. We do not post a Jardín price, so ask us before planning.
Choose by your energy
- Low energy or jet-lagged: coffee, or a short city day.
- Medium energy: Guatapé without the climb, or Arví.
- High energy and time: Guatapé with the climb, or Jardín as an overnight.
Choose by who is traveling
Couples often like coffee or Guatapé; see Guatapé for couples. Families with young children may prefer shorter drives. Older travelers or anyone with limited walking can read limited-walking options. Groups of friends can read the group guide.
Choose by what you have left
If you only have a day or two, you may not need a day trip at all. A well-built city day with Comuna 13, Botero and a view can do more than a long drive. Our half day vs full day guide helps with that decision, and three days in Medellín shows where a road day fits.
How to use the Route Card for a day trip
Once you pick a direction, the Route Card turns it into a plan: suggested stops, approximate time at each, which ones cost extra and what fits together geographically. For a road day, the card should show where lunch fits and where the optional extras sit, so you can drop one without wrecking the rest. If the weather turns, the same card gives you the swap. Ask to see it before you pay, and treat every stop as optional until you have seen the timing.
Bottom line
For a restful, flavorful half day, choose coffee. For scenery and a full day out, choose Guatapé. For a green break, ask about Arví. For Jardín, plan more time. Tell us your date, group size and how much road you want, and we will say what fits.
